Hi
I thought you might like this photo for your site. It fits into the screen doors section (left hand side) but it is also an interesting station with passengers boarding on one side and alighting on the other.
This is Olympic Park Station in Sydney, Australia

| Are these barriers waist-high? And are they for safety reasons when many people are coming from the Olympic Stadium? |

Yes, when there isnt a large event they only use the two inner platforms (2 and 3) which are designed for unloading so there are no gates. |

On the topic of underground stations in Australia there has been discussion about it's installation on Melbourne undergorund stations, though Syndey does get briefly mentioned. And many on that forum seen to believe that platform screen doors require automatic train operation, something we don't have.
Is it true that platform screen doors require automatic train operation or can they be used without it. St Petersburg pioneered platfor screen doors before ATO existed, I wonder how they manage lining the train doors with those of the platform. |

As far as I have observed, there is always a tolerance for aligning the doors as the PSDs are usually some 20 to 50 cm wider than the train doors. That means that (partly) automated train operation is helpful but not prerequisite for aligning the doors. It can be done by the experienced driver if there are visible marks for him.
Though the difference is low in St. Petersburg (more like 20 cm) as faintly visible in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JboYJ2j0-OU&feature=related |
